Maria Bonsignore graduated in Medicine in 1979 and is a Specialist in Cardiology (1982), and Respiratory Medicine (1988). ERS Young Investigator Award in 1991. Fellow of ERS since 2018. ERS Sadoul Lecture in 2020. 1990-2002: Researcher, National Council of Research (CNR), Italy. Since 2002, Associate Professor of Respiratory Medicine, University of Palermo. 2005-2009: Director of the Residency Program in Respiratory Medicine, University of Palermo. 2017: National certification for Full Professor in Respiratory Medicine. Periods abroad: 1983-1986 University of California, San Francisco, USA; 1999 University of Toronto, Canada; 2001: University of Madison, Wisconsin, USA; 2009: University of Barcelona, Spain.

Main research activities on: hypoxia, cardiovascular and metabolic aspects of sleep apnea. In 2005, proposed the EU COST Action B26, during which the European Sleep Apnea Database was established, and is currently funded as a ERS Cinical Research Collaboration.Secretary (2012-2014) and Head (2014-2017) of the ERS Assembly 4 (Clinical Physiology, Sleep and Pulmonary Circulation). Chair of ESADA in 2018-19. 2018: Organizer of the ESADA Workshop on: “Analysis of big data in OSA” (Palermo, 6-7 July 2018). Chair of the ERS TF on Sleep Apnea and Driving Risk, published in 2020. Author of 145 papers published in International journals. H-Index Scopus: 39. Member of the Editorial Board of Chest (2005-2014) and ERJ (2017-current) and reviewer for several Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Physiology.
