The scope of project management / effective membership Background The purpose of the ESRS is to promote research on sleep and sleep-related areas, improve the care for patients with sleep disorders, and facilitate the dissemination of information regarding sleep research and sleep medicine. In accordance with the policy to appoint members to new positions, the ESRS launches a call for candidates to become effective members of the Sleep Medicine Committee. The Sleep Medicine Committee (SMC) is a formal body of the ESRS. Its mission is to promote clinical sleep medicine as an integrated multidisciplinary field and as a healthcare discipline in its own right, accessible for healthcare providers from different professional backgrounds. European Academy for Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment of Insomnia (CBT-I) This European Academy was founded in 2018 by members of the European Insomnia Network, which is a clinical network of the ESRS since 2009. The CBT-I Academy aims at disseminating CBT-I for clinicians and scientists especially in Europe, trying to establish teaching courses for clinicians throughout Europe in regular intervals. This impetus derives from the European Insomnia Guideline (Riemann et al., Journal of Sleep Research, 2017) which unequivocally comes to the conclusion that CBT-I should be the first line treatment for insomnia. Unfortunately, however, at present there are not enough providers of this therapy to fullfill the needs of afflicted individuals in Europe. Sleep Science Friday: A tour through Belgium with the BASS 26 February 2021 Today’s SSF brings us to Belgium. The Belgian Association for Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine, or the BASS, is one of the oldest national sleep societies, founded as early as 1982, and is an active participant of the ESRS and ANSS events and initiatives. The logo of the BASS has been recognized as the best emblem among all national sleep societies by the ANSS. Today, the recently elected President of the BASS, Professor Dries Testelmans, Pulmonologist at the Department of Respiratory diseases at Leuven University Clinic will tell us about the milestones of the BASS in 2020 and plans for 2021.
