Beyond the Sleep Lab: Wearables, the Present and the Future of Sleep Research
Date: 14 April 2026
Time: 16:00-17:00 CEST
Wearable devices and consumer sleep technologies are increasingly used to monitor sleep in everyday settings. These tools provide new opportunities to study sleep outside the laboratory and to collect large-scale, longitudinal data. At the same time, their growing use raises important questions regarding validation, data interpretation, and their role in both research and clinical contexts.
This webinar examined the current role of wearable technologies in sleep research and discussed future perspectives for their use. The session explored how emerging tools are contributing to sleep monitoring across different environments and populations. The programme featured:
– Dr. Yue Leng (USA) – “Bridging Clinic and Home: From Sleep Technology to Digital Biomarkers in the Era of AI”
– Dr. Kiran Ravindran (UK) – “From Validation to Utility: Rethinking How We Evaluate Consumer Sleep Technologies”
A panel discussion followed with Dr. Stijn Massar (SG),. The session was moderated by Dr. Laura Stankeviciute and organised by the ESRS Early Career Network (ECN).
