Children’s Drawing Contest

March 1 - March 31

As part of Sleep Awareness Month, the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS), in partnership with 11 National Sleep Societies across Europe, is promoting a children’s drawing contest to raise awareness of the importance of healthy sleep from an early age.

Through creativity and artistic expression, this initiative invites children, families, schools, and communities to reflect on sleep and wellbeing in a positive, accessible, and age-appropriate way.

About the initiative

The Children’s Drawing Contest is a public awareness activity designed to engage children in learning about sleep and healthy sleep routines through creativity and art.

By participating, children are encouraged to reflect on everyday habits that support good sleep, such as consistent bedtime routines, limiting screen use before bed, and creating calm evening environments,  and how these habits contribute to restorative sleep and overall well-being. Drawing provides a natural and inclusive way for children to explore these ideas and express their understanding of sleep in their own words and images.

Each participating National Sleep Society promotes and implements the activity at national level, adapting it to local languages, cultural contexts, and educational settings. National Sleep Societies are also responsible for managing submissions and selection processes within their respective countries.

Contest categories and timeline

The Drawing Contest is organised into two age categories:

  • Category 1: Children aged 9 years and under

  • Category 2: Children aged 10–13 years

Entries may be submitted either by schools or by a child’s parent or legal guardian between 15 February 2025 and 1 March 2026.

Participation procedures are managed locally. For information on how to take part, participants are invited to contact the National Sleep Society of their country.
