Master in Sleep and Circadian Medicine at University of Lisbon

In 2005, the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Lisbon, led by Professor Teresa Paiva, established Europe’s first Master’s Degree in Sleep Medicine, marking a significant advancement in the field. Today, the Master’s program in Sleep and Circadian Medicine continues this legacy, offering a cutting-edge curriculum that integrates sleep science, sleep medicine, and circadian biology with a practical, clinical, and translational focus.

This 2-year program (one year of coursework and one year for thesis development) aims to:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the physiological mechanisms of sleep and circadian rhythms.
  • Provide in-depth knowledge of the mechanisms behind sleep disorders.
  • Improve diagnostic skills through traditional and innovative methodologies.
  • Promote integrative treatment strategies incorporating the latest therapeutic modalities.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration among professionals from diverse fields.
  • Enhance leadership and communication skills to advance sleep medicine and public health initiatives.

This program prepares students to specialise and conduct research, shaping the future leaders in sleep and circadian medicine.
