Sleep Aging and Neurodegeneration
February 2 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm CET

The Fundación Ramón Areces has successfully organised two International Symposia in Madrid, Spain, in 2000 and 2017, around the topic “Neurobiology and Sleep Disorders”. Since then, progress in areas such as Genetics of circadian rhythms and its molecular mechanisms (awarded with the Nobel Prize in 2017), Neurobiology (discovery of new arousal mechanisms and the role of sleep by means of the glymphatic system), or on the metabolic and systemic consequences of sleep disorders has been considerable. As a result, Sleep Medicine has emerged as a field of knowledge characterised by its multidisciplinary clinical nature that has marked consequences on various areas of health, ranging from neuropsychology to systemic disorders (arterial hypertension, etc.).
The objective of this new edition of the International Symposium will be to discuss, aided by several of the world´s leading experts, the current state-of-the-art in the science of sleep as it relates to ageing and resilience. Understanding the mechanisms underlying control of sleep and associated pathologies will undoubtedly increase quality of life in the years to come.
The event will be held in a hybrid format (in-person and live streaming) through the following links:
