Profile:
You are a proactive, highly organised self-starter with strong project management skills and an entrepreneurial mindset. You are comfortable taking ownership of a functional department and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
Role and Responsibilities:
You will lead the Marketing & Communications function and report directly to the Executive Director. You will work closely with ESRS staff, Board members, volunteers and external partners.
Your overarching objective is to strengthen ESRS visibility, engagement, and membership growth across Europe. More specifically, increase the number of scientific submissions, registrations and applications for ESRS run webinars, meetings and congresses.
1. Strategic Marketing & Performance Management
- Contribute to implementation of the ESRS Strategic Plan 2026–2030
- Develop and execute the ESRS marketing and communications strategy
- Design member acquisition and renewal journeys
- Support CRM implementation and optimisation
- Define, monitor and report KPIs (website engagement, social media performance, email metrics, membership conversion, event registrations)
2. Branding & Design
- Develop and produce visual assets for congresses, education programmes, public health campaigns and committee initiatives
- Maintain and update the ESRS Brand Guide
- Ensure consistent brand compliance across all outputs
- Oversee templates, staff signatures and branding subscriptions
- Recommend and coordinate external suppliers where required
3. Digital Content & Communications
- Own and manage the ESRS content calendar
- Curate and publish scientific and educational content across digital channels
- Translate complex sleep science into accessible communications
- Coordinate recurring formats such as blog posts, newsletters and campaigns
- Disseminate ESRS communications to national societies and partners
4. Event & Education Marketing
- Lead the marketing strategy for the ESRS flagship congress Sleep Europe and work in close collaboration with the external meeting organiser
- Manage branding, messaging and digital engagement for eSleep Europe
- Promote ESRS educational initiatives, including: Paediatric Sleep School and Sleep Science School
- ESRS Sleep Medicine Examination
- Support marketing for ESRS publications, including: Journal of Sleep Research and ESRS Textbook (new edition)
- Manage webinar infrastructure (registration pages, promotion, on-demand access)
5. Website Management (WordPress)
- Take full ownership of the ESRS website
- Align website structure and content with strategic priorities
- Build and optimise pages for membership, education and events
- Maintain the laboratory database in collaboration with the Board Secretary
- Coordinate with external web designer(s)
6. Committee & Stakeholder Support
Digital Communications Committee (DCC)
- Coordinate monthly meetings
- Manage timelines and workflows for committee initiatives
Stakeholder & Media Partnerships
- Manage partnerships with media and publishing partners
- Coordinate communications with national sleep societies
- Collaborate with industry partners in compliance with transparency and independence principles
7. Public Health Initiatives
- Lead Sleep Awareness Month end-to-end
- Develop campaign messaging, toolkits and partner coordination
- Manage national society engagement and campaign evaluation
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field
- Professional experience in marketing and communications
- Experience with website management (WordPress preferred)
- Strong graphic design capabilities
- Experience in digital marketing and content strategy
- Excellent written communication skills in English
An ideal candidate will also have one or more of the below:
- Experience working for a professional association, non-profit organisation, or association management company
- Experience in scientific, healthcare, or education-related environments
- CRM implementation experience
