CURRENT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Laboratory Description:

The sleep laboratory has four rooms equipped for level I video polysomnography studies in adults. Multiple sleep latency tests (MSLT), multiple wakefulness tests (MWT), home sleep studies for diagnosis of sleep apnoea and actigraphy are routinely performed in accordance with clinical presentation. We are hospital based and coupled with a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic. The laboratory was found in 1991 and the outpatient clinic in 1993.

During 2012 the laboratory executed approximately 2000 studies in patients with diverse sleep pathology. The outpatient clinic performed over 5500 consults (1700 new patients).
We function with a multidisciplinary staff (pulmonology, neurology, psychiatry and clinical psychology) and have established protocols with other departments whose field of expertise is fundamental in the management of these patients – cardiology, internal medicine and head and neck surgical departments. In addition to our target population we provide services for referrals from several institutions, nationally.

Teaching and training of physicians and technicians is a fundamental part of our activity and hundreds of health professionals have had basic training in our laboratory, both in-house and from several national health institutions not affiliated with our hospital.
Research is also a high priority and have corroborated in both graduate and undergraduate projects from several Universities/Institutes.
