Laboratory description

First Sleep Studies in 1983-85 in Sleep and Neurological Dirsorers and Biological Rhythms and Epilepsy. Formal Sleep Lab and Outpatient Clinic on Hospital base since 1987.
Present: Clinical Sleep Lab connected to Outpatient Sleep within a University Teaching Hospital with responsability for training Residents in Neurology or Specialists in Neurophysiology, Technicians and Medical and Technician Students. Main research areas: Sleep and Neurological Disorders, mainly Sleep and Epilepsy and Sleep and Parkinsonism; Sleep and Breathing Disorders, Genetics of Sleep Disorders (Narcolepsy, Sleep and Obesity, among others).

Technical Capabilities and areas of expertise

4 Night Sleep Recording Rooms, full equiped (Video EEG polygraphic recording: 3 rooms up to 40 EEG channels, one room up to 128 EEG channels – EMG, EOG, Movement sensors, Nasal and Thoracic Breathing, Oximetry, EKG). One room mainly dedicated to Epilepsy and Epilepsy/Sleep Studies.
Staff: 3 MD, 5 technicians, 1 aid
Three (shared) rooms for Sleep Out-Patient Clinic.
Routine: Full Night Recordings, MSLT, Sleep Deprivation Studies
Areas expertise: Sleep Disorders and Sleep and Neurological Disorders (Epilepsy, Parkinson), Sleep and Breathing Disorders, Sleep and Medical Disorders (Obesity, Autoimmune Disorders); Genetics of Sleep Disorders including Narcolepsy, Hypersomnia adn Autoimunity
