Dr. Adriana Michalak
Post-Doctoral Researcher in Dreams Engineering
Sleep, Plasticity and Conscious Experience (SPACE) Group
Adriana Michalak is a cognitive scientist working in sleep research since 2014. She obtained her BSc in cognitive science at the University of Nicolaus Copernicus (Poland) and her MSc in cognitive neuroscience at the Centre for Mind and Brain Sciences (CIMeC) at the University of Trento (Italy). During her early career, she has done her internships at the University of Salzburg (Austria), the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) and the University of Amsterdam (the Netherlands) based sleep laboratories concentrating mainly on sleep-dependent memory consolidation and neural oscillations underlying the processing of emotional and self-relevant auditory stimuli during sleep.
She has completed her PhD degree at the Sleep and Brain Research Unit (SBRU) at the University of East Anglia (England). Her PhD thesis focused on cognition (with a special interest in spatial navigation), sleep, rest-activity patterns and APOE-ε4 genotype in the context of early markers of Alzheimer’s Disease. Currently, she is a Post-Doctoral Researcher in dreams engineering at the Sleep, Plasticity and Conscious Experience (SPACE) Group at the IMT Lucca (Italy). Since September 2022, Adriana is an elected member of the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS) Early Career Researcher Network (ECRN) where she is one of Sustainability Leads. Besides research, Adriana likes to eat good food in pretty places, ideally surrounded by mountains, lovely people and dogs.
