Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barbara Gnidovec Stražišar is a board-certified paediatrician, child neurologist and expert in sleep medicine with more than two decades of experience working with children and adolescents with sleep disorders. She received her somnology training from Marie Josephe Challamel in Child Sleep Research Unit at Centre Hospitalier Lyon-Sud in Lyon and Dr. Richard Ferber at the Centre for Pediatric Sleep Disorders in Children’s Hospital Boston. She is the acting president of the Slovenian Sleep Society and the head of Paediatric department at General Hospital Celje where is located the only accredited Center for Paediatric Sleep Disorders in Slovenia. In the years 2018-2020 she served as the chair of the executive committee of the Assembly of National Sleep Societies (ANSS) and from 2021 on as Board Director of IPSA. For the last two years, she was appointed as the chair of the Sleep Medicine Committee of the ESRS and she serves also as a coordinator of the European Paediatric Sleep subcommittee and an active member of ESRS Sleep Educational Committee. At the last ESRS congress, she was elected the clinical vice president to the Board of the ESRS. Dr. Gnidovec Stražišar is actively involved in the Sleep Revolution Horizon 2020 project led by Erna Sif Arnardottir from Reykjavik, Iceland.

She is also a part-time researcher in the Centre for Sleep Disorders at the Institute for Clinical Neurophysiology at University Medical Centre Ljubljana and CMS-Centre for Sleep Disorders in Ljubljana. Her main research interests are circadian rhythm disorders, epilepsy and sleep in children with neurodevelopmental delay
