Dr. David Elmenhorst focuses his research on molecular neuroimaging of sleep (deprivation) and neurodegeneration. His main areas of expertise include neuroreceptor PET, MRI and behavioral studies in humans and animals in longitudinal laboratory settings. He is head of the Molecular Plasticity Team at the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine (INM-2) Forschungszentrum Jülich and teaches neuroscience at the University of Cologne, Germany. He studied medicine in Aachen, Germany before receiving his doctorate in sleep research at the German Aerospace Centre in Cologne, Germany. He was a visiting researcher at the Brain Imaging Centre at the Montreal Neurological Institute Canada performing preclinical imaging of glutamatergic receptors and at the Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA investigating sleep and adenosine.
