Dimitrios Kantas
Dimitrios K. Kantas graduated from the Medical School of the University of Ioannina, Greece. He completed a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University Hospital of Ioannina, followed by a fellowship in Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at University Hospitals Birmingham, UK. He also holds a Master of Science in Sleep Medicine from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an MBA in Healthcare Administration.
He is a European board-certified interventional pulmonologist, intensivist, and somnologist. He served for 5 years as a research fellow/trainee and research collaborator at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and is currently a PhD candidate working on an NIH R01-funded project investigating cardiovascular risk and racial disparities in sleep health.
Dimitrios is Chair of the International Assembly of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and serves as the AASM’s International Ambassador to Europe. He previously served as Secretary of the Sleep Science—Basic and Translational Committee (Group 4.01) of Assembly 4 of the European Respiratory Society (ERS), as a member of the AASM’s PAC Committee, and on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee of the Sleep Research Society (SRS).
He holds a Certificate in “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace” from the University of South Florida and currently Chairs the DEI Committee of the Minnesota Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). In 2023, he received the ACHE Minnesota Regent Award for Early Career Achievement.
He is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (JCSM) and Nature and Science of Sleep, and serves as a peer reviewer for several leading journals in sleep and respiratory medicine.
Dimitrios is an early-career, passionate physician-scientist, future healthcare leader, part-time musician, and lifelong dreamer.
