Dr. José Prius Mengual

Postdoctoral Researcher

University of Oxford, United Kingdom

Dr José Prius Mengual is an Early Career Fellow Researcher in sleep neurobiology and epilepsy. His current project aims to shed light on the molecular mechanisms underlying genetic forms of epilepsy and how they relate to sleep at the molecular level, with a specific focus on cellular stress genes.

In his previous research, Dr Prius Mengual investigated the role of sleep in cognitive function and how disrupted sleep is linked to a broad range of neurological, neurodegenerative, and neuropsychiatric disorders. In particular, he explored how cellular stress modulates sleep need and synaptic activity. To address these questions, he combined in vitro and in vivo electrophysiology with a wide range of molecular techniques in animal models.

He holds a BSc in Biochemistry and an MSc in Biotechnology from the University of Córdoba. During his PhD at the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Molecular Biology at the University Pablo de Olavide, he studied the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in changes in synaptic plasticity during neurodevelopment.
