Laura is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Gothenburg, with a background in neuropsychology and neuroscience. She completed her PhD in Neuroscience at the BarcelonaBeta Brain Research Center and Harvard Medical School.

Her research focuses on the role of sleep in healthy ageing and the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), using a multi-modal approach that integrates advanced neuroimaging, fluid biomarkers, and cognitive assessments. By examining how sleep patterns change with age, Laura aims to identify factors that support cognitive resilience and to understand how sleep disturbances may contribute to Alzheimer’s pathology. Her work also explores sex differences in sleep and AD, investigating biological mechanisms—such as hormonal fluctuations—that may alter sleep patterns and interact with AD biomarkers, influencing disease progression.

Laura is particularly interested in health technology, especially in the use of digital biomarkers through wearable devices. She sees significant potential in leveraging these tools for early diagnostics and ongoing monitoring, capturing subtle changes in sleep to better understand their impact on biomarkers and cognitive health. Her work aims to provide insights that support both early detection of cognitive decline and strategies for promoting healthy ageing.
