Marta Gonçalves is MD Psychiatry with a PhD in Public Health and a Master’s Degree in Psychiatry and Mental Health- Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. Guest Assistant Professor at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Neuropsychiatry, and Mental Health at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto. She is also a Researcher at the EPI Unit, the Epidemiology Research Unit of the Institute of Public Health, University of Porto.

Additionally, she is a Certified Expert Somnologist – 2012 ESRS, Member of the Commission for Sleep Medicine Competency nominated by the Portuguese Medical Association in 2012, Scientific Consultant of the National Program for Respiratory Diseases (sleep apnoea) 2012 from the Directorate General of Health, Head of Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine Departments in the Hospital CUF Porto, Porto-Portugal where there is ongoing research in Neuro-Psychiatry and Sleep; Oncology and Sleep and the Non pharmacological treatments of insomnia.

Main organizer and teacher in post-graduate sleep medicine courses for general practitioners, medical specialists, nurses and pharmacists since 1996, and has been a Member of the Organizing Committee in various national and international congresses and invited speaker at multiple scientific events. She was President of the Portuguese Sleep Association during 2008/2013. Member of the EU Committee of the European Sleep Research Society during 2012-2016. Board Member of ESRS 2014-2016. Member of the Executive Committee of the Assembly of National Sleep Societies (EC-ANSS) 2012-2016. Member of the Sleep Medicine Committee of ESRS since 2017.
