Michele Ferrara is a Full Professor in Psychobiology and Physiological Psychology, and Head of the Laboratory of Sleep Psychophysiology and Cognitive Neuroscience, University of L’Aquila, Italy.

Graduated in Experimental Psychology, he obtained a Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Rome “Sapienza”. He has been consultant of the Italian Air Force Aerospace Medicine Research Center. Presently, he is Chair of the Psychology Didactic Council, Department of Biotechnological and Applied Clinical Sciences, University of L’Aquila, Italy.

He participates in Doctoral School Boards since 2007, currently being a member of the Faculty Board of the Research Doctorate in Experimental Medicine. Member of the scientific committee of the Italian Association of Sleep Medicine (AIMS) since 2019.

Author of more than 150 publications in international indexed and peer-reviewed journals. His research activity has mainly focused on the relationship between sleep and higher cognitive processes (attention, memory, learning, executive functions); the relationship between sleep and regulation of emotional processes; the effects of sleep deprivation on cognitive, behavioral and electrophysiological variables; cortical topography of the EEG of sleep and wakefulness; hippocampal and human neocortical sleep by means of intracerebral stereo-EEG recordings.
