Dr. Özen K Basoglu graduated from Ege University, School of Medicine and started her career as a registrar (1991) and continued as a pulmonologist (1996) at Ege University, Izmir, Türkiye. In 2002-2003, she worked in the Department of Thoracic Medicine at Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust Hospital in London as a research fellow. Prof. Basoglu was the education coordinator in 2015-16 and vice dean for educational affairs in 2017-18 at Ege University. She is currently a full-time professor and Head of Sleep Laboratory at the same university. She is interested in sleep-related breathing disorders, particularly sex differences in sleep apnoea.
In the Sleep Disorders Assembly of the Turkish Thoracic Society, she served as vice chairman (4 years) and as chairman (2 years). She was a member of LRPC of ERS Sleep Disordered Breathing Assembly (2021-23). She is a current member of the ERS Sleep Working Group Education Council and Scientific Committee of ESRS. In addition, she is ERS Task Force member on “Advanced telemedicine for sleep disordered breathing”, and “CPAP for the treatment of adult OSA”. Dr. Basoglu has published 168 articles and book chapters with more than 1600 citations, and her Google Scholar profile shows h-index of 35 and i10-index of 62, and a Web of Science h-index is 26. Her sleep laboratory has been participating in the multi-center EU Project “European Sleep Apnea Database (ESADA)” since 2012, and EU Horizon 2020 Project “Sleep Revolution”.
