Samson Khachatryan MD PhD is a neurologist and sleep clinician. Currently, Dr. Khachatryan is the Chairman of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Armenian National Institute of Health. He is the medical director at “Somnus” Neurology Clinic, Center for Sleep and Movement Disorders, Yerevan, Armenia. Dr. Khachatryan serves as the Neurology Consultant to the Armenian Ministry of Health and is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Armenian Journal of Health & Medical Sciences (2021). He is the founder and current president of the Armenian Sleep Disorders Association and Executive Committee member of the Assembly of National Sleep Societies of European Sleep Research Society.

Dr. Khachatryan passed fellowships and training related mostly to sleep medicine and epilepsy at the Cleveland Clinic Sleep Disorders Center, New York-Cornell Medical Center’s Sleep and Epilepsy Center, University of Bern’s InselSpital’s Sleep and EEG center, Pathophysiology of neural networks in the sleep-wake cycle laboratory, University of Lyon, University of Innsbruck Department of Neurology, Sleep Disorders Centers, Lugano Center for Sleep disorders and Epilepsy.

Dr.  Khachatryan conducts research in sleep disorders and epilepsy interaction, restless legs syndrome, epidemiology of sleep disorders, quality of life in epilepsy. His current projects include “Role of sleep disorders in epilepsy”, “Prevalence of sleep disorders in Armenian general population”. He is also a collaborator in other international neurological and sleep medicine-related projects. By the end of 2019, Dr. Khachatryan had a mutual agreement with the Institute of Molecular Biology in Yerevan, Armenia, to develop projects related to basic sleep research in Armenia.
