Call for Members to Join the Taskforce of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (EDIC)

Application Deadline: 24 April 2025

Background

The newly launched Equality Diversity and Inclusion Committee (EDIC) is calling for members. Previously the Gender Equality Forum (GEF), the forum is broadening its agenda to recognise the need for more inclusion, diversity and equality across the society and in all the activities the ESRS engages with.

The GEF has been an active committee of the ESRS since 2021, surveying members of gender equality issues, successfully launching the childcare support grants, organising key symposiums and collaborating with the ECN to host social activities at Sleep Europe.

Although there is still much to be done in terms of gender, there is a need to recognise inclusion, diversity and equality more generally across the society and in all the activities the ESRS engages with.

New Members

The EDIC is a formal body of the ESRS. The purpose of the forum will be to highlight, and work to address, EDI issues within the society, and broader sleep community, ensuring the ESRS is championing equality and diversity.

The forum aims to foster an inclusive ESRS culture, offer educational opportunities, and devise strategies to retain underrepresented demographic characteristics within the field of sleep.  As such we are looking for 4 effective members to join the EDIC. We are keen to hear from members of all genders, career stages, nationalities and backgrounds.

A task force rich in diversity, spanning all genders, various career stages, and different nationalities and backgrounds is pivotal to inducing meaningful change in this vital global issue.

Tenure

These new members will be assigned for the period until the next ESRS Business Meeting held during the Sleep Europe 2026 conference in September 2026.

Eligibility & Voting Procedure

Eligibility

The candidate:

  • is a member of the ESRS
  • is passionate about championing equality and celebrating diversity
  • maintains an open-minded and inclusive perspective
  • is vocal about challenges and barriers to equality
  • demonstrates responsiveness, punctuality and dedication
  • is committed to participation in meetings and the orchestration/contribution to conferences, digital events, and workshops

Application & Validation Procedure

If you are an ESRS member and wish to be a part of this transformative journey, we invite you to submit a concise CV and a letter of intent. Your letter should describe your interest in joining the committee, your strengths and preferred activities (e.g., treasurer, communication, coordination) and how you envisage your contribution to the ESRS EDIC in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.

The new effective members of the EDIC will be selected by the current GEF/EDIC and assigned by the Board.

Applications should be received no later than 24 April 2025.
