President's Message October 2025

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Autumn has arrived across Europe, and you can already feel the turning of the season, with temperatures slowly dropping and a new rhythm settling in as many of us are preparing to meet new students.

For the ESRS, it is a time of momentum, not least as the Call for Symposia for Sleep Europe 2026 enters its final days. The deadline of 8 October is fast approaching, and I encourage you to finalise your proposals and submit them without delay.

The next instalment of eSleep Europe will take place on Thursday, 9 October, featuring the Basic Human Track. The programme addresses themes ranging from sensory stimulation and autonomic dynamics to immunology, memory, and the emergence of sleep-like activity in specific states, such as in brain damage. Complimentary Registration is a benefit of ESRS membership.

To all our Early Career colleagues – that is, anyone who is 10 years or less post-terminal degree- we would greatly value your input in the ongoing survey organised by the Early Career Network (ECN) in collaboration with the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee (EDIC). The survey explores the barriers that many face in attending congresses and pursuing training. By taking just ten minutes to share your experience, you will help us build a clearer picture of these challenges and strengthen our efforts to make ESRS congresses more accessible and supportive.

Finally, reviewer invitations for the Sleep Europe 2026 scientific programme have now been sent. As a reviewer, you have the opportunity to help shape the agenda of the most important biannual scientific event of the ESRS. By contributing to the evaluation of symposium proposals and abstracts, you ensure that our congress reflects both the highest scientific standards and the breadth of perspectives within our community. I encourage all those invited to accept this important role.

Kind regards,

Erna Sif Arnardóttir
