Call for Contributors: ESRS Manual for the recording and analysis of sleep in laboratory rodents

An initiative by the ESRS Basic Sleep Research Committee (BSRC)

Applications closed

The absence of standardised methodologies for measuring and scoring sleep in mice and rats continues to pose challenges for reproducibility and data comparability across laboratories. Despite their central role in sleep research, rodent models still lack the harmonised protocols that guide human sleep studies.

To address this, the Basic Sleep Research Committee (BSRC) is launching a consensus-driven initiative to develop a standardised manual for rodent sleep research, with a specific focus on mice and rats.

The aim is to bring together a multidisciplinary group of experts to develop shared guidelines and best practices in this area. This initiative will provide researchers with guidance on designing and conducting rodent sleep studies while fostering standardisation, methodological transparency, and reproducibility.

We are currently seeking researchers with relevant experience who are interested in contributing to this initiative over the next 12 to 24 months. Contributors will be involved in drafting, reviewing, or advising on specific content areas.
