June 2025- Report- Basic Sleep Research Committee
The Basic Sleep Research Committee (BSRC) was formally established earlier this year and has already held three internal meetings to shape its strategic direction. The BSRC’s mission statement, now available on the ESRS website, outlines its core aims of fostering standardisation, training, and collaboration within the field of basic sleep research.Â
Initial priorities include the development of methodological standards, the design of hands-on training opportunities in sleep recording and analysis, and facilitation of collaborative efforts, notably the creation of an open-access database for rodent sleep recordings. These efforts aim to strengthen knowledge-sharing and reproducibility across research groups.Â
Future plans include exploring synergies with the Sleep Medicine Committee (SMC), particularly in areas related to guideline development. The BSRC is also laying the groundwork for a research data repository and has initiated discussions around platform requirements and stakeholder engagement.Â
Support for the BSRC’s initiatives has been expressed across ESRS governance, with alignment noted between the proposed database and ongoing efforts such as the development of the ESRS Online Library. Visibility of BSRC-led opportunities and activities is expected to expand as the committee continues its work.Â
