Lisbon, September 2010

The seventh meeting of the Forum was held during the 20th Congress of the European Sleep Research Society in Lisbon, Portugal. Close to seventy participants enjoyed the ‘revealing’ presentations of Josephine Arendt (University of Surrey, UK) and Valérie Mongrain (University of Montréal, Canada). Josephine and Valérie shared their personal experiences on building their scientific career combining both successful professional life and family.
Raphaëlle Winsky-Sommerer, who took over from Tracey Sletten as coordinator of the Forum, presented novel insights into the importance of sex differences observed in Neuroscience and Pharmacology. These data suggest the value of performing more studies including women. Raphaëlle also highlighted the importance of networking and being proactive, even at an early-career stage, to benefit from the opportunity given by the Forum framework.
