Sleep Awareness Month for Europe 2025

Healthier Sleep for a Healthier Europe

Helping Children Succeed, One Restful Night at a Time

Sleep is the foundation of a child’s growth, learning, and emotional well-being. Yet, in today’s fast-paced digital world, sleep is often compromised—leading to consequences that extend far beyond tired mornings.

This March, Sleep Awareness Month for Europe 2025 is dedicated to raising awareness, offering practical solutions, and empowering families, educators, and healthcare professionals to make children’s sleep health a priority.

Join us in promoting healthy sleep habits for children across Europe!

Excessive Screen Time Before Bed Disrupts Sleep

Children who use digital devices for more than two hours a day experience increased bedtime resistance, anxiety, and night awakenings. (1)

Lack of Sleep Impacts Learning

Children who do not get enough rest struggle with focus, memory, and problem-solving, leading to lower academic performance.(2)

Sleep and Mental Health are Deeply Connected

Children with irregular sleep patterns are twice as likely to experience anxiety, hyperactivity, and emotional difficulties.(3)

Sleep Diary

Help your child track their sleep patterns with this fun and easy-to-use diary. Designed to engage young minds, it encourages children to reflect on their sleep habits and uncover ways to enjoy more restful nights.

For further insights into the benefits of sleep tracking, you can read the Journal of Sleep Research article, “Sleep diaries and other subjective measures are essential for the assessment of insomnia.” While the focus is on insomnia, the discussion highlights the broader value of sleep diaries, which can also support children’s sleep management.

Lullabies for Grown-Ups: A Dreamer’s Playlist

This curated collection explores the themes of sleep, dreams, and the night through music. Featuring a blend of timeless classics and modern compositions, this playlist is designed for relaxation, introspection, and embracing the mystery of the night.

Whether you’re a night owl, a dreamer, or simply fascinated by sleep-inspired music, let these melodies accompany your thoughts long after the world has settled.

Pyjama Day

Pyjama Day is a fun and engaging way to raise awareness about the importance of healthy sleep. Wear your pyjamas to work, school, or community events on the 7 March and join people across Europe in supporting better sleep for a healthier future.

Wear your Pyjamas to work to kick off the month and share an image on your favourite platform using #PJDay25ESRS so we can see.

Build Brighter Futures Through Better Sleep

What is Sleep Awareness Month for Europe?

Launching in March 2025, Sleep Awareness Month for Europe is a new initiative of the ESRS dedicated to raising awareness about the essential role of sleep in health and well-being.

Organised by the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS), this month-long campaign aims to combine with World Sleep Day by supporting efforts to encourage ongoing activities related to sleep and sleep-wake disorders throughout the month on a national and international level.

For 2025 and 2026, we are focusing on sleep hygiene in children and adolescents —helping them grow, learn, and thrive, one restful night at a time.
