Session Descriptions

The Plenary Lecture is a new addition to the Sleep Europe 2026 programme. Delivered by a figure of international renown, this lecture provides a high-level, research-oriented perspective on a theme of central importance to sleep science and sleep medicine. As the sole plenary session of the Congress, it represents a unique moment in the programme where the entire community gathers to reflect on key scientific achievements and future directions.

Keynote Lectures are presented by leading experts in the sleep field, selected for their outstanding contributions to sleep research or clinical practice. These lectures provide authoritative insights into major scientific breakthroughs, landmark studies, or transformative perspectives, setting the stage for dialogue and future exploration.

Thematic sessions selected from member submissions. Each symposium brings together experts from multiple disciplines and institutions to address emerging topics, present original findings, and foster critical discussion.

Form a core component of the programme, featuring original research selected from submitted abstracts. These sessions provide early-career and established researchers alike with the opportunity to present novel data and engage in scholarly discussion with peers.

Showcase recent findings from participants and selected for display. They create an open setting for authors to share their work, answer questions, and exchange ideas with delegates during scheduled viewing times. Presenters are expected to be next to their posters during their allocated slot.

Masterclasses (formerly Teaching Courses) provide advanced educational opportunities across a wide range of topics and career stages. These courses combine theoretical knowledge with practical application, offering participants structured learning and skills development.

Participation requires a separate ticket, available for purchase at an additional fee. Space is limited.

Join a small group for an early-morning breakfast meeting designed to foster lively exchange with topical experts

Participation requires a separate ticket, available for purchase at an additional fee. Space is very limited. A light breakfast is provided.

Early Career Day is dedicated to supporting the next generation of sleep researchers and clinicians. Through networking opportunities, it fosters professional development and integration into the wider ESRS community.

Registration is required but there is no additional fee to participate.

Organised in collaboration with ESRS-affiliated networks, these sessions serve as a platform for cross-European exchange. They highlight collaborative projects, research initiatives, and clinical advancements, strengthening ties within the European sleep community.

All network sessions are open to all Sleep Europe participants, and network membership is not required.

Organised in collaboration with industry partners and showcase the latest developments in products, technologies, and therapeutic approaches.

CME Credits - Scientific Programme

“The 27th Congress of the European Sleep Research Society, Seville, Spain, 24/09/2024- 27/09/2024 has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 26.0 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Information on the process to convert EACCME® credit to AMA credit can be found at https://edhub.ama-assn.org/pages/applications.

Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognised by the UEMS-EACCME® for ECMEC®s are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

EACCME® credits

Each participant can only receive the number of credits he/she is entitled to according to his/her actual participation at the event once he/she has completed the feedback form. Cf. criteria 22 of UEMS 2023.07. In order to help you issue individual certificates to each participant, please find below the breakdown of ECMEC®s per day:

CME per day

  • 24 September 2024 – 6.5

  • 25 September 2024 – 7.0

  • 26 September 2024 – 7.0

  • 27 September 2024 – 5.5

The EACCME® awards ECMEC®s on the basis of 0,5 ECMEC® for 30 minutes of CME with a maximum of 8 ECMEC®s per day. cf. Chapter XIII of UEMS 2023.07.

People viewing the recordings during the six-month period after the event has taken place are entitled to CME credits, in the same way as the participants to the live event. The credits are granted, as for the live event, on the basis of actual “participation”, i.e. how many hours of CME the participants have viewed. The maximum number of credits granted for watching the recordings will be the same as for the live event and cannot exceed this number whatever the number of sessions attended or viewed. A participant may not obtain credits for participating at the live event and watching the same sessions as recordings.
