2026 Sleep Medicine Examination
The European Sleep Research Society is pleased to announce the 15th Sleep Medicine Examination for Somnologist Certification and the 13th Sleep Medicine Examination for Somnologist-Technologist Certification will be offered as an online only examination in November 2026, after Sleep Europe in Maastricht, Netherlands.
Physicians, psychologists, sleep scientists, physician assistants and sleep-technologists from all over the world are invited to submit their applications between 01 December 2025 and 31 January 2026.

This post above will be updated by 4 October 2024 with successful ONLINE and ONSITE examinees.
Certificates that have not already been picked up at the ESRS booth will be sent by post.

Who can apply?
- You must be a Full or Reduced ESRS Individual Member at the time of the application, and examination.
- You may select between the examinations for Somnologist Certification (for physicians, psychologists, sleep scientists or physician assistants) or Somnologist-Technologist Certification (for sleep technologists, nurses...).

2024 Sleep Medicine Examination
The European Sleep Research Society conducted the 13th Examination of Certification in Sleep Medicine and the 11th Examination of Certification in Sleep Medicine for Sleep Technologists in September 2024.
For the first time the Somnologist-Technologist examination was offered both in English and Spanish. The Spanish edition was supported and sponsored by SES (Sociedad Española del Sueño).
The on-site examination took place Tuesday, 24 September and the online examination took place on Wednesday, 25 September.

- Participants may sit the examinations on-site on 30-September or online on 1-October
- The examination fee for the on-site edition is € 400.- EUR (included is a non-refundable 90.- EUR administration fee, payable on submission of the application)
- The examination fee for the online edition is € 600.- EUR (included is a non-refundable 90.- EUR administration fee, payable on submission of the application)
- The ESRS Board supports the examinations by offering six grants to support eligible examinees. Applications for this program will be accepted together with your application until January 31, 2022. For grant requirements please visit sleep examination grants page.
