Giuseppe Plazzi, MD PhD, is a Neurologist and a  Professor of Childhood Neuropsychiatry at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, head of the Narcolepsy and Hypersomnia Center at the IRCCS of the Neurological Sciences of Bologna; Past President of the Italian Sleep Society (AIMS); Past President of the EU-Narcolepsy Network (EU-NN).
He has been a visiting professor at Stanford University, California and has authored more than 500 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals (SCOPUS Total work: 564 Total citations: 25.444 H-index: 79). He also contributed to the clinical, polysomnographic, epidemiological and genetic definition of several sleep disorders and to the polysomnographic characterization of sleep in neurological diseases. He has been granted from the Italian Ministries of research and of health for several research projects in the field of narcolepsy.
His main area of scientific interest and expertise focuses on the clinical aspects and the pathophysiology and treatment of narcolepsy in adults and children; sleep in neurodegenerative diseases and early markers; genetics of sleep disorders; and disorders of motor control in sleep.
