ESRS Newsletter March 2024
President's Message March 2024
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is my hope that the beginning of 2024 has been as productive for you as it has been for the Board and Staff of ESRS – we have been making significant progress on Sleep Europe 2024, thanks to the hard work of the Scientific Committee and the volunteer reviewers. Before the end of this month, we aim to share the preliminary scientific programme with you, detailing all symposia following our seven topical tracks, new courses and novel session formats. You can already find the keynote speakers and their lecture topics and summaries online. We are planning to open registration in April, but until then, I urge you to submit your abstracts by 2 April to be considered for the scientific programme, and book your accommodation in Seville, Spain.
At the core of our society is the promotion of training and education to facilitate continuous learning. On this note, I’m pleased to announce the appointment of ESRS’s first Education Manager, Erica Schwebs. She will lead ESRS’s educational efforts, in collaboration with the Education Committee and other ESRS bodies to support and enhance existing programmes and introduce innovative initiatives. Many of you already know Erica as our current Marketing Manager and I am excited to welcome her into this new role.
While we’re on the topic of education, I encourage you to register for the upcoming webinar on “Contemporary Management of Central Sleep Apnoea (CSA)”, supported by Zoll Respicardia, to be held on 5 March at 14:00 CET. Join Vice President (Clinical) Prof. Dr. Dirk Pevernagie and panellists, Prof. Dr. Johan Verbraecken, Dr. Jerryll Asin and Dr. Robin Germany to learn more about this topic.
We are also excited to announce that the very competitive selection for the first ESRS Paediatric Sleep School is complete, and we were able to expand the school a bit to accommodate 55 participants. Together with the faculty, we will welcome individuals from 29 countries at Bertinoro Castle, Italy, 11-13 April, to explore all aspects of paediatric sleep health.
Finally, I hope to see some of our members at the 32nd European Congress of European Psychiatry in Budapest, Hungary at the start of April. I will be presenting at the ESRS/EPA joint session alongside our own Education Committee Chair and Sleep Medicine Textbook Chief Editor, Prof. Dr. Tiina Paunio. We are excited to have established a new society partnership with the European Psychiatric Association and hope to work on more projects in the future.
Kind regards,
Pierre-Hervé Luppi
ESRS President
