Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As the first quarter of 2023 draws to a close, we reflect on the eventful start to the year and look forward to what lies ahead in the coming months.
First, I would like to personally thank each of our renowned panellists and attendees for participating in our March webinar, "Hot Topics in OSA." The webinar attracted a record-breaking number of 539 attendees from over 80 countries. In recognition of World Sleep Day 2023, we have already made this webinar viewable on-demand.
As Europe enters spring, our first in-person event of the year, Sleep and Breathing, is rapidly approaching. The event, which is jointly organised by the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS), will provide an integrated approach to the study of sleep respiratory medicine and the treatment of sleep disorders. If you have never attended Sleep and Breathing, I encourage you to check out the programme which is respiratory focused, but also integrates other type of contents. This is the biggest meeting of its kind in all of Europe. It will take place in the beautiful city of Prague from 20 to 22 April, virtual registration is also possible.
I would like to remind you of the most pressing upcoming deadlines. 14 April is the final day to submit an application to the Sleep Science School. The topic this year is Paradoxical sleep. This is a wonderful opportunity for early-career researchers to learn from and interact with an impressive lineup of speakers while taking in the breathtaking surroundings of the southern French city of Frejus. Don’t forget that we offer ten grants to support participation. The 10th of May is another deadline for abstract submission for eSleep Europe. This is a virtual event intended to bring together participants from across the world and we look forward to receiving your abstract. Registration is free for ESRS members so sign up now.
There are also three committees with open calls for new members - The Examination Sub-Committee, The Education Committee and The Digital Communication Committee. I strongly encourage all members to take this chance to apply and actively participate in a committee, early career individuals are very welcome to apply.
Throughout the year, there will be a great deal of activity, so I encourage you to follow ESRS on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter for real-time announcements and updates.
I look forward to meeting you be it in person or online.
Kind Regards,
Pierre-Hervé Luppi
ESRS President
