Early Career Researcher Network (ECRN) Call for Applications
Are you an early career researcher and enthusiastic about contributing to the future of the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS)? The Early Career Researcher Network (ECRN) is looking for new members. It is a two-year term (which can be extended for another 2 years) and you get to help out on the ESRS Early Career Day at Sleep Europe 2024 and much more!
To be eligible, you need to be:
- a member of the ESRS,
- a MSc or PhD student, or post-doctoral researcher or clinician who obtained your PhD or MD <10 year ago
- able to attend the monthly meetings of the committee
We will be holding the elections for the committee at the Early Career Day at Sleep Europe in Athens (13:00-16:30 Tuesday 27th September). For the Early Career Day, sign up via the registration for Sleep Europe for our free session if you are an early career researcher!
The ability to communicate science to a lay audience is an important skill of a modern scientist. Most importantly though, it can be a lot of fun, a source of immediate reward, and help you to discover and learn about new (scientific) topics. Nowadays, outreach activities have even become an evaluation criterion for some funding applications. Besides this, social media have changed science communication and made it easy to connect with a lay audience without having to take the detour via the institution’s communication department or classic media such as radio or newspaper. In this year’s ECRN workshop, you will learn about the basics that will help you get started with science communication. To this end, you will learn about how interaction with the media works in an ideal case and what you can do when things go wrong. Speakers will be Dr. Christine Blume (ESRS ECRN member, University of Basel, Switzerland) and Ioanna Soufleri (science journalist in Athens, Greece).
