Early Career Network
Mission
The ESRS Early Career Network (ECN) [formerly the Early Career Researcher Network (ECRN)] is dedicated to fostering collaboration and participation of early career sleep professionals within the ESRS through various activities and events. Our main aim is to establish and maintain a peer network for early-career sleep researchers and clinicians, supporting a generation of healthy, collaborative, and successful sleep professionals.

All early career sleep professionals (e.g., MSc and PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, or clinicians) who obtained their PhD or Master’s degree within the past 10 years and are members of the ESRS can join the ECN. We also connect with the community of early-career sleep professionals through our social media platforms. You can find us on BlueSky, LinkedIn page, and our LinkedIn group. Feel free to reach out to us!
Since 2016, one of our main activities is hosting the Early Career Day on the first day of each biannual ESRS conference. The Early Career Day is a half-day session focused on topics relevant to early career professionals, such as professional development and transferable skills. In addition, we organize networking events, online sessions, and digital communications throughout the year. Please follow our social media channels for more information.
The Executive Committee (EC)
The ECN is led by an Executive Committee (EC), which aims to reflect the diversity of early-career sleep researchers and clinicians within the ESRS. The EC consists of members elected at the biannual Early Career Day following an advertisement sent out via email to all ECN members. To ensure continuity in ongoing work, members of the EC are elected for four-year terms, with 2–3 new members elected at each biannual Early Career Day.
EC members cannot serve for more than four consecutive years but may be re-elected once. If needed, the ECN-EC, in collaboration with the ESRS Board, may decide to change the composition of the EC. Such decisions are made by a majority vote. The EC members select the Chair and Co-Chair among themselves.
The ECN-EC ensures that the voice of young sleep professionals is heard throughout the ESRS. The ECN Chair regularly meets with the ESRS Board, and ECN members actively interact with other ESRS committees.
